Out Of Character & General Guidelines
I. Show respect for one another and the community. Members of RPF are expected to act in a mature and courteous manner regardless of age.
II. Posts should be a minimum of five (complete) sentences long. RPF is geared towards experienced, literate roleplayers, but if you are new, don't be afraid to ask for help. We're all friends here.
III. You are limited to one character per roleplay, but you may create additional characters who act as NPC's (characters who are controllable by everyone). Individual roleplays may have a limit on the number of NPCs you can create, so be sure to read their rules, too.
IV. A slash (/) is currently our traditional system of punishment. If there is a slash beside your name and you delete it, you will receive another. Learn more about the Slash System here.
V. Signatures and other images that stretch the board will be removed or modified.
VI. Before posting (in character), you are required to post a profile for your character, filling in details about him/her. Each roleplay board will have a thread for this. Be sure to post your character's profile according to the form the thread provides for you. You can jump right in after you create your character. You don't need your character to be approved, but you may be notified if you need to modify the profile.
Realism & Time Mechanics
I. Realism is important to any roleplay you participate in, even fantasy roleplays. Each roleplay will have things that are realistic and unrealistic to that particular roleplay. For example, you would never use a cell phone in the Dungeons and Dragons roleplay because it is a Medieval fantasy. Read the rules of the roleplay you want to participate in to make sure what is and isn't considered realistic for that roleplay.
II. Please be aware that our host does not allow content of an explicit or pornographic nature. While mature themes may be addressed, graphic depictions of sex or mating are not allowed and will be promptly removed. Furthermore, vulgarity for the sake of vulgarity is not appreciated.
III. Some roleplays on RPF have timelines. Others don't. Make sure you are aware of and follow the time pattern of the roleplay you're participating in. Generally, all roleplays have some sense of time, even if it is not documented strictly, so pay attention when you roleplay to make sure that your characters aren't in two places at once or are referring to things that haven't happened to them, yet.
Fighting & Challenges
I. A challenge to fight may occur between characters in certain roleplays at any time. Winners can be determined by the players or by a neutral third party (such as a mod or admin). Please remember that while fighting between characters is permitted and sometimes encouraged, fighting between players is not. It's just a story, guys. Chillax, okay?
II. While characters can die from various causes, including fighting with other characters, they cannot die without the player's permission. To have one character kill another, both players must agree that the character will die. No killing other peoples' characters without their permission. Doing so is considered disrespectful and will earn you a slash.
Biological Guidelines
I. Certain roleplays may allow your characters to have romances and have children. It's even encouraged in some roleplays, like Harvest Moon. When this happens, you can certainly delve into the sexual aspects of the relationship, but please no graphic descriptions of the act itself. Our host doesn't allow this, and neither do we.
II. When your characters are about to engage in sexual intercourse, we recommend the "fade to black" method. The fade to black method is when the author leads up to the point just before the action, then ends the scene, skipping ahead to after the action, leaving the entire act itself up to the readers' imagination. This method gives your characters sexual freedom while avoiding making younger members uncomfortable.
III. Just because you can incorporate sex into your roleplaying, that doesn't mean you have to. If you're not comfortable writing about it, then don't. No one's going to single you out or make fun of you for it. We all need to respect each others' comfort zones.
